Dear Heart,
I am annoyed, and not because there is zero to no toilet paper in my house.
It‘s my body. That is why I’m annoyed. I eat normal. Two eggs in the morning with fruit and water, then more water, then lunch which is usually sporadic: ( in regards to the fact that I’m a poor 21 year old college student and I take what I can get ), then some more water, and then dinner: which could also be anything under the sun. Like I said: “I take what I can get.”
Now that I have started writing this in run on sentences, I should probably say what it is that is about my body that is bothering me. Pssst! It‘s my curves. They are annoying. not to mention my stomach is not at all flat as it used to be. Let’s talk about why this is. Well, puberty struck and that is when it all started. I did not begin to notice anything... at first. It was not until I graduated high school that I saw the beauty of it all.
Don’t get me wrong. Curves are great. They continue on the story of how all shapes are an art. Dating back to the ancient Greeks and their gorgeous sculptures of those jaw dropping ladies, women have always been known to have curves. It is the hormones you have to keep track of. Hormones can be dangerous.
At this point, you may be asking: “Corissa, what is it that makes you think hormones play a lead role in your body image problem?” Well, I’ll tell ya.
Hormones can cause weight gain even when there is no reason for the weight to be gained.
Yeah, I know fricken mind blowing right? Yeah... shit, I hate it. Hormones regulate our bodily functions such as metabolism, stress, and hunger. So, the nights where you are stressed or maybe your period has come for a visit, you may just pay for that extra bite of food a tad bit later. Not to mention that Prozac; a drug that I do take, causes the body to crave carbs. And omg I started taking it the year I graduated high school which is when all of this crap went down.
So, let’s talk about Brooke Shields and that Blue Lagoon movie. If you have not seen it, I shall summarize, ( but DO watch it ). Basically, two young children are put on a boat for some reason with a crew of people and then the boat crashes because of a storm. So then only three people survived somehow and guess what?! It’s the two kids and a drunken old fart of a man that survives! So then he raises these kids on this strange small island. But, oh no... he dies because he kinda has a BAD drinking problem. So then the kids are left to fend for themselves and learn everything about life as they are growing up.
Okay, but what does Brooke Shields‘ body have to do with any of this? Well if you’ve seen it in this movie, you would know that holy smokes she’s HOT.
Besides the era of her being a model and a hot young star, she was playing a character that resides on an island where only fruits, vegetables, and meats exist. No brownies, no cake, and absolutely no bread. No carbs. I mean, no bad carbs. Vegetables and fruits contain healthy carbs, sugars, and fats that are ultimately good for your body. So, if one were to eat this diet with a dose of daily exercise, they would come out of that dressing room looking pretty damn close to Brooke Shields body correct? Well, not exactly. Because ughhhhh, genetics. Not one person can look exactly like another person, but you could get close to the same results.
Let’s talk about this diet. It has a name. The Paleo diet consists of meals in portion of vegetables, fruits, meats, and gluten-free foods. Fun fact! This diet is 2.5 million years old. Another name for the diet is the Caveman diet. Yes people, our ancestors ate all of this stuff and were probably ripped AF.
Over the summer, I tried the Paleo diet. It was very hard. I mean my body CRAVES carbs. I cannot help that fact. I ended up losing 7 pounds of water weight. The water that all of the carbs in my system were holding on to.
I am determined. My health must come first and I need to focus on my body goals. It is necessary that I flush all of that crap out of my system and start a new. My body is beautiful and I need to treat it with the respect that it deserves. The respect that I deserve.
With love,
Corissa
