a throwback comeback

Dear Heart,

Despite the forward trot towards a futuresque look, the fashion world has leaped back into the time machine and is heading straight towards the 70’s. Bell Bottom Jeans and Gogo Boots are the new normal in 2020 and there is no knowing what direction fashion will go from here. In the past, it seems that fashion has had a mind of its own. There has been no actual influence of one person or another. Always searching for more ways to differ from our friends and other people around us, digging up old trends has become the new trend.

From social media to high school hallways and college quads, the throwbacks are making themselves known as a comeback; and if you have not hopped on that train, then you are bound to be left behind. As of late, the younger generations are making the rules of this game. Determined, these young minds are set to discover the next biggest fad. Floral and Fleetwood Mac go together like pancakes and syrup, but if you forget your rounded John Lennon sunglasses you are totally screwed. As Lauren Adhav says in the Cosmopolitan story: “17 ’70s Fashion Trends and Outfits Making a Major Comeback”, denim dresses have set a new standard for those of us who are searching for something that puts ourselves out there, but not all the way. Opting for either a low cut seam or a bustier-type style can allow your audience to keep guessing on what else you have to provide for the catwalk.

From London Fashion Week to Ariana Grande, over-the-knee boots have infected your local college quad where girls at frat parties are crawling from toe to knee in them. It is obviously essential to pair this type of boot with a simple sweater dress, ultra mini dress, or your favorite pair of jeans. Personally, I believe that Instagram has held people accountable for their actions on the behalf of fashionary statements. It is the posts that the people of our world share daily that spreads ideas throughout the circumference of our planet. Without a supporter of a fad, the fad therefore cannot exist.

Nothing is ever set in style and things are destined for change. I don’t ever see bra tops ever going away though. Those are ICONIC and if Rihanna wore it, you bet your ass it is here to stay.

With love,

Corissa
